Wheat...Early-week trade in west coast wheat markets showed soft white
wheat bids holding steady at the $9 mark, with a notable increase in club
wheat premiums. Being primarily a spring wheat crop grown in Washington,
club production is expected to be sharply lower due to drought conditions.
Protein wheat markets remain reflective of moves on the respective futures
markets, but hard red winter basis did strengthen over the past week.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed total wheat shipments were
2 mb behind a week ago at 17.6 mb, putting year-to-date loadings at 123 mb
and 19% behind a year ago. Hard red winter registered as top shipper last
week with 11.4 mb, followed by hard red spring at 3.1 mb and soft white at
1.1 mb. Top destination off the west coast was China, taking 2.3 mb.
Crop Progess...As expected, winter wheat harvests continues to advance
well ahead of the average pace across the Pacific Northwest. Washington is
reported 50% complete versus a 20% average, Oregon at 59% versus 35% and
Idaho is shown at 29% complete versus a 12% average pace. PNW spring wheat
crop prospects for Washington remain dismal, with nearly 90% of the crop
rating poor to very poor.
